- Details
- Written by Andrew Oatts
The Semley Christmas Eve Carol Service will take place this year and will start at 6.00 pm. However, it will not be open to all-comers. Sadly, we will not be able to open our doors this year to our usual congregation of around 350!
The service will take place in church and will be open to a congregation but limited to around 70 people in order to maintain social distancing. It will also be broadcast on Zoom. If you would like to come to the Christmas Eve service, please email with the number in your party. (Note: see update below). To send me an email, click here and when the new page opens, click on the ‘Contact Form’ tab to send me your message.
Seating will be allocated on a first come first served basis and ‘family bubbles’ are particularly encouraged in order to make best use of the space available.
Further details will be published on the weekly Benefice news sheets and the church noticeboard.

You are all welcome to this increasingly popular Carol Service which will take place at St Leonard's Church, Semley, on Christmas Eve (Tuesday 24th December 2019) at 6.00 pm and that is expected to last about 45 minutes. It will take the format of 6 carols and 6 readings, and one of the carols will be ‘Away in a Manger’ during which children will be able to gather round the crib and sing the last verse.
There will be tea-lights on the ledges in the church, but you are asked not to bring naked candles unless in covered lanterns. Alternatively you might wish to bring a covered torch to help read the service sheets as light levels will be low.
Please do join us for a wonderful and atmospheric start to your Christmas. All will be most welcome.

Semley Fete 2019
- Details
- Written by Semley Fete Committee
Despite the wind and a distant threat of rain, Semley's Annual Village Fete was once again a great success. The Bell Street Jazz Band set the tone with their brilliant and uplifting playing entertaining those enjoying tea and cake or Pimms as well as those busy bargain hunting or taking part in the many games on offer. A group of children from Semley School sang during the band's break and it was wonderful to see their happy faces enjoying their performance before they ran off again to have more fun. The attractions included face painting, donkey rides, crockery smashing and the ever-popular coconut shy. There were long queues for the bottle stall and this year some brave folk even volunteered to have sponges thrown at them while they were in the stocks. Two other new attractions, the Pop-Up Boutique, which stocked nearly new clothes, and the Pimms' tent were both a huge success and hopefully will become part of the Semley Fete traditions. Everywhere you looked there were smiling faces. It is a wonderful day when the community comes together to raise money for our village.
The Semley Fete Committee would like to thank everyone who worked so hard putting it together. Those who put up and take down the tents, everyone who comes along on the day, every plant lovingly planted to be sold and every cake baked help make it a perfect summer's day. The fete raised £5,400 which will be used to continue to support local causes. Many thanks.
