St Andrew’s Church Development Appeal - July 2016 Update

Recent Fundraising Events And Activities

Scarecrow Competition - Saturday 25th June 2016

There were 14 entries in the Scarecrow Competition for children of the church and village. Judging took place on the Saturday morning in St Andrew’s Church, where the judges, Lynda Appleby and the Rector, awarded the prizes in front of a crowd of over 60 children and adults. The Scarecrows were then used to mark the entrance of each of the gardens which were to be open later that day and on Sunday.

Open Gardens Weekend - Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th June 2016

After days of rain, we were lucky that the weather largely held out as fourteen lovely - and very different - gardens in the village were open to view. Over 300 visitors enjoyed the gardens, delicious Cream Teas and a variety of selling stalls and two raffles. On the Sunday, there were games and amusements for children. The weekend raised over £2,500 for Appeal funds, as well as being great fun for the village community.

Fundraising Activities

The Children’s Christmas Card Competition

The 2016 Children’s Christmas Competition was launched on the 12th June 2016 at the Family Service. Entry forms and further details about the competition are available from Lynda Appleby (telephone: 01747 829678) or on the St Andrew’s website: www.sacda.co.uk. Judging will take place in late July. The winning entries will be printed and sold to raise funds for the Appeal.

The Village Produce Stall

The Stall is open every day at Crossrivers and sells a variety of plants, cuttings, seeds, vegetables, fruit and cut flowers. Do have a regular look at what’s on offer as the stock changes daily. If you have plants, cuttings, seeds, fruit, flowers or vegetables to contribute, Chris York (telephone: 01747 828739) will be delighted to receive them.

The Friends’ Stall

The Friends’ Stall will be open at St Andrew’s Church Summer Fete, selling a variety of cards, notelets, montages, limited edition prints and Christmas cards, all painted or drawn by local artists. New for the 2016 Church Fete will be the winning entries from the Children’s Christmas Card Competition. The Friends’ Stall will then be open after church services from September to December.

Update On Appeal Funds Raised To The End Of June 2016

By the end of May 2016, we had raised £262,000. June has been a good month; with further donations from villagers, a grant from a charitable trust and the proceeds of the Open Gardens Weekend, a further £8,000 has been added to the Appeal Fund.

So, we have now raised a total of just over £270,000.

The PCC’s thanks to everyone who has supported the Appeal in so many ways.

St Andrew’s Church’s Development Appeal Website And Exhibition

Do go online and have a look at the new website; you can find it at www.sacda.uk. If you would like to see the architect’s impression of what the church will look like after the Development Project is completed, there’s a short video to look at which you can access via the website.

There is an exhibition in St Andrew’s Church which contains the architect’s plans and elevations and details of the new furnishings and furniture. Do pop in to have a look.
