Come, all you jolly ploughmen, of courage stout and bold
That labour all the winter in stormy winds, and cold;
To clothe the fields with plenty, your farm-yards to renew,
To crown with contentment, behold the painful plough!

Prayer Cycle and Prayer of the Month - January 2019

We continue to pray for all in need in our Benefice, so please do contact Julia (tel: 01747 829166), The Rev’d June (tel: 01747 828427), Theresa (tel: 01747 829188), or The Rev’d Richard (tel: 01747 830174) with any news or requests for Prayer.

Every single one of us has need of help in some aspect of our lives so let's begin 2019 acknowledging the need for help in our daily lives. This prayer of St. Anselm is a good one to use regularly.

O Lord our God,
teach our hearts this day
where and how to see you,
where and how to find you.
You have made and remade us,
and you have given us all the good things we possess,
and still we do not know you.
We have not yet done that for which we were created.
Teach us to seek you,
for we cannot seek you unless you teach us,
or find you unless you show yourself to us.
Let us seek you in our longing,
let us long for you in our seeking.
Let us find you by loving you,
Let us love you when we find you.  Amen

There is a sheet in each church on which you can write down the names of those you especially wish to remember and have read out during the service. Alternatively, you can send the details to the Benefice Office by email - click here, and when the new page opens, select the 'Contact Form' to send your message.

Please do join us for this special service.

Prayer Cycle and Prayer of the Month - December 2018

The Prayer Cycle is always there - for your requests or thank-you’s. Contact Julia (tel: 01747 829166), The Rev’d June (tel: 01747 828427), Theresa (tel: 101747 829188), or The Rev’d Richard (tel: 01747 830174).

Sometimes it is easy to think that Prayer does not achieve anything, that it is just saying things into an empty, silent space where no one is listening. But, this year there have been some remarkable positive answers to our prayers. We have known those who have recovered from illness and others who have had so much longer with their loved ones than the doctor's thought possible. Those who have found an inner peace and the ability to face their troubles and those who have found new friends and new interests to make life seem worthwhile again.

Of course, sometimes we have not had the answers we would have liked, sometimes we have wondered "Why?" But we in the Prayer Group do believe Prayer makes a difference and we do feel honoured when you approach any one of us and ask us to pray.

Prayer of the Month

This Prayer is inspiring us to look at the past year and pray for the new year to come as we think of the virtues of Saints who followed God all their lives.

You might even get the children to go to the Library and look up some of these Saints as a Christmas Project!

Heavenly Father,
Help us to follow the example of Alden the patient one.
May we walk in the steps of Cuthbert, the gentle one.
Give us the grace to tread the path of Hilda, the wise one.
Encourage us to live as Chad, the willing one.
May we journey on the Pilgrim Way as Cedd, the travelling one.
Amen

Prayer Cycle and Prayer of the Month - September 2018

Please keep your Prayer requests coming. Contact us: Julia (tel: 01747 829166), The Rev’d June (tel: 01747 828427) or The Rev’d Richard (tel: 01747 830174).

There are two prayers this month, very different but both about forgiveness.

The first is by the poet Christina Rossetti:

O Lord Jesus, because, being full of foolishness,
we often sin and have to ask pardon,
help us to forgive as we would be forgiven,
neither mentioning old offences committed against us,
nor dwelling on them in thought.
nor being ifluenced by them in heart.
But loving our brother freely,
as You have freely loved us.
For Your Name's sake.  Amen.

Here is modern prayer from the heart by someone called Nancy Martin:

Dear God, I find it so hard to forgive those who are unkind to me,
Or those who blame me for the things which are not my fault.
I go on bearing a grudge even when they try to make up.
It makes me feel bitter and hard.
I know this is wrong.
When Peter asked Jesus how many times he should forgive,
Jesus just gave an impossible number,
meaning go on and on forgiving.
Jesus even prayed for his persecutors from the Cross.
Please help me to be more like him.  Amen

Prayer Cycle and Prayer of the Month - November 2018

Please keep the prayer requests coming to Julia (tel: 01747 829166), The Rev’d June (tel: 01747 828427), Theresa (tel: 101747 829188), or the Rev’d Richard (tel: 01747 830174). There are many of us in need of that extra help and comfort that comes from knowing someone is praying for us.

Prayer Of The Month

This little Prayer is adapted from one written by a Christian living in New Guinea. It is a simple but heartfelt prayer which is well worth making our own.

Dear Heavenly Father, as Advent approaches we should all try the key to our heart's door. The hinges may have gathered some rust during the year.

Now is just the time to oil those hinges so that my heart's door may open more easily when Jesus comes knocking at Christmas time.

Dear Heavenly Father, please oil the hinges of my heart's door that it may swing open gently and easily and really welcome the coming of Your Son, Jesus.

Amen
