All are most welcome

Come, all you jolly ploughmen, of courage stout and bold
That labour all the winter in stormy winds, and cold;
To clothe the fields with plenty, your farm-yards to renew,
To crown with contentment, behold the painful plough!

Prayer Cycle and Prayer of the Month - January 2022

Please do continue to make your requests for prayer known to us. Prayer changes things. Contact any of us: The Rev’d June (tel: 01747 828427), Julia (tel: 01747 829166), or Theresa (tel: 01747 829188). There are many of us in need of that extra help and comfort that comes from knowing someone is praying for us.

Prayer of the Month

O Lord our God,
teach our hearts this day
where and how to see you,
where and how to find you.
You have made and remade us,
and you have given us all the good things we possess,
and still we do not know you.
We have not yet done that for which we were created.
Teach us to seek you,
for we cannot seek you unless you teach us,
or find you unless you show yourself to us.
Let us seek you in our longing,
let us long for you in our seeking.
Let us find you by loving you,
Let us love you when we find you. Amen

Prayer Cycle and Prayer of the Month - December 2021

Remember to keep those requests coming in and also to tell us of any answers. Contact any of us: The Rev’d June (tel: 01747 828427), Julia (tel: 01747 829166), or Theresa (tel: 01747 829188).

Prayer Of The Month

Especially at this time we often feel the need of familiar things, familiar words and sometimes our Prayers are no exception. I have chosen two of my perennial favourites this year.

This particular Prayer is inspiring us to look at the past year and pray for the new year to come as we think of the virtues of Saints who followed God all their lives. You might even get the children to go to the Library and look up some of these Saints as a Christmas Project!

Heavenly Father,
help us to follow the example of Aiden the patient one.
May we walk in the steps of Cuthbert, the gentle one.
Give us the grace to tread the path of Hilda, the wise one.
Encourage us to live as Chad, the willing one.
May we journey on the Pilgrim Way as Cedd, the travelling one. Amen

The second is one of my favourite Christmas Prayers and so I am once more bringing it out for this wonderful season. We can never say it enough times.

May the joy of the angels,
the eagerness of the shepherds,
the perseverance of the wise men,
the obedience of Joseph and Mary,
and the peace of the Christ child
be yours this Christmas.  Amen

Prayer Cycle and Prayer of the Month - June 2022

Although we are no longer in that complete "Lockdown", COVID is still with us, and there have been several requests for Prayer this last month. But God's heart is big enough for a lot more. Please do let us know if you would like us to pray for you. Contact any of us: The Rev’d June (tel: 01747 828427), Julia (tel: 01747 829166), or Theresa (tel: 01747 829188).

Prayer Of The Month

In May, we celebrated another of our beautiful rejoicings for the Agricultural Year, Rogation. The following is one of our favourite Rogation hymns - it is by Folliott Sandford Pierpoint and it is good to be reminded that many hymns are simple pray.

For the beauty of the earth.
For the beauty of the skies,
For the love which from our birth Over and around us lies.
Christ our God, to thee we raise,
This our sacrifice of praise.

For the beauty of each of the day and of the night,
Hill and vale and tree and flower.
Sun and moon and stars of light.
Christ our God to thee we raise
This our sacrifice of praise. Amen

Prayer of the Month

At this terrible time of the war in Ukraine, this is a Prayer for peace in our troubled world by Frances Paget

Almighty God, from whom all thoughts of truth and peace proceed;
kindle, we pray, in the hearts of all men, the true love of peace;
and guide with your pure and peaceable wisdom,
all those who have power in the nations of the earth;
that in peace and tranquillity your kingdom may grow,
till the whole earth is filled with the knowledge of your love.
We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Prayer of the Month

Our prayer for this month is a great favourite and a reminder that we need God’s guidance and help.

Heavenly Father,
We remember with gratitude,
The light of the star which drew them on;
those wise men, travelling with their gifts
for a fellow wise man, and a king.

We believe that light draws us on;
Draws us to Jesus, Light of the World,
Draws us to give ourselves.

And the Light that is Jesus,
also gives us light;
it shows us the way,
it shines before us to encourage us.
This is light; true light; the Light of the world;
the light that is a way of peace, hope, justice and forgiveness;
The Light that is Love in a darkened world;
and the way to God, Father of us all.
Amen
