Prayer of the Month

This Prayer is based on an old Scottish Prayer, author unknown, but it rather suits the current feelings about how we use our Planet.

Lord of all mercy and goodness,
We promise not to forget to be grateful
for all the wonderful benefits you have given us.
We are reminded this day and every day
by the beauty around us, the wonders of the earth,
that you care for us, your creation.
Help us to realise this,
we ask in the Name of Our Lord Jesus.
Amen.

Prayer of the Month

This Prayer of Gilbert Shaw was written nearly 100 years ago and yet it still speaks of today's problems and fears. I hope it helps someone this month:

Lord, give us the grace to hold to you when all is weariness and fear and sin abounds within, without
when love itself is tested by the doubt...
that love is false, or dead within the soul, when every act brings new confusion, new distress,
new opportunities, new misunderstandings, and every thought new accusation.
O Lord, give us grace that we may know
that in the darkness pressing round
it is the mist of sin that hides your face,
that you are there,
and you do know we love you still
and our dependence and endurance in your will
is still our gift of love. Amen.

Prayer Cycle and Prayer of the Month - September 2019

Prayer of the Month

I have used this prayer before but it is such a relevant one that I hope you will all pray it again with me.

This Prayer about our journey through life is by Canon Frank Topping.

Lord, you spent your earthly days travelling on foot.
Your greatest journey was on a donkey.
But you left behind a trail of hope, and love and peace.
At least I know that it is not the distance travelled that matters, but the quality of the journey.
In all my travels,
Christ be before me,
Christ be behind me,
Christ be beside me,
Christ be at mine end and at my departing.

Amen

Prayer Cycle and Prayer of the Month - August 2019

Many of you have requested prayer these last months but we are always ready to listen and pray for you. Do keep asking - contact Julia (tel: 01747 829166), The Rev’d June (tel: 01747 828427), Theresa (tel: 01747 829188), or The Rev’d Richard (tel: 01747 830174).

Looking back I realised that it is four years since Richard and Anna came to us. The following is the Prayer I used as Prayer of the Month then as we anticipated their arrival. It is still very appropriate and can never be prayed enough.

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God,
teach us to walk in your way more trustfully,
to accept Your truth more faithfully,
and to share Your life more lovingly.
By the power of the Holy Spirit
guide us in our work for Your Church,
so that we may become as one family,
wanting only to serve You and our community.
Amen

Prayer Of The Month

A Prayer from the Iona Community

Christ our life, you are alive,
In the beauty of the earth, in the rhythm of the seasons,
In the mystery of time and space, Alleluia
Christ our life, you are alive,
in the tenderness of touch, in the heartbeat of intimacy,
in the insights of solitude, Alleluia
Christ our life, you are alive,
In the creative possibility of the dullest conversation,
In the dreariest talk, the most threatening event. Alleluia
Christ our life, you are alive
to offer re-creation to every unhealed hurt,
to every deadened place, to every damaged heart. Alleluia
You set before us a great choice, Therefore we choose life.
Amen

Rogation Sunday - 12th May 2019

Beat the Bounds
and Bring Your Hounds!

HoundRogation Days are days of prayerful supplication before God. In years gone by, it was common for the Church to gather on Rogation Days to ask God to bless the crops being sown, to send rain and to give a good harvest later in the year. Often prayers would be said as the church processed around the boundary lines of the parish.

We will be celebrating Rogation Day on Sunday 12th May 2019 by beating the bounds - the traditional walking of the parish boundary - consisting of a three mile walk around Sedgehill. Dogs are very welcome - the more the merrier (and louder!). The walk will be suitable for small children and buggies.

We will meet at St Catherine's Church, Sedgehill, at 9.00 am with the aim to start the walk at 9.15 am. The walk will be followed by the Rogation Eucharist at 10.30 am at St Catherine's Church. Refreshments will be served after the service.

All are most welcome.

Prayer of the Month

A Prayer for peace in our troubled world by Frances Paget

Almighty God, from whom all thoughts of truth and peace proceed;
kindle, we pray, in the hearts of all men, the true love of peace;
and guide with your pure and peaceable wisdom,
all those who have power in the nations of the earth;
that in peace and tranquility your kingdom may grow,
till the whole earth is filled with the knowledge of your love.
We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
